Hi! I'm Melissa! Nice to meet you!

I was previously a software engineer at Google, working on the collaboration team within Google Workspace. Before that I was both a Software Engineer intern and as a STEP intern at Google, as well as a Software Engineer Intern at Fidelity Investments.

I am a graduate of Boston University (class of 2022), majoring in Computer Science. During my time there, I helped organized several hackathons, namely BostonHacks and TechTogether Boston and also worked as a Teaching Assistant for the introductory programming classes at BU.

When I am not programming, you can find me traveling, eating good food, running, crocheting, or browsing bookstores.

  • Designed a scalable database that will be used to track all data and analysis from network outages in an organized and readable manner.
  • Developed a core API library using C++ to simplify the operations the tools used to track outage data need to do on the database.
  • Integrated the database with the current ecosystem of tools to migrate to using the database track outages and import existing outage data into the database.

  • Developed a web application that allows users to explore Google's OAuth2l Tool using React.JS for the frontend and Golang for the backend.
  • Constructed containers for the backend and the frontend of the application to allow for local deployment of the application on any platform using Docker.

An Android application developed with a team of five students as a educational platform that teaches the basics of entrpreneurship to students in Southeast Asia, with user profiles keeping track of progress and a forum in which students can communicate with each other.

Massachusetts Department of Corrections Grievances OCR

Worked with a team of student journalists to scrape and analyze data from grievances filled by inmates at the Massachusetts Department of Corrections to identify the possible systemic problems within the department. Used Python, Google Cloud Vision API, and a MYSQL database to extract data from scanned images of grievances and insert that data into a database.

Skills

Python

Python is one of my strongest languages. I have a multitude of academic, professional, and personal experience with it. I have used it to create fullstack web applications, conduct statistical and data analysis, conducting vision and character analysis, and much more. In addition, I was a course assistant for a introdutory programming class taught in Python.

Java

I have used Java extensively in my career. I have used it to create fullstack application (with Spring Boot), mobile applications (with Android Studio), and mock network applications. Additionally, I am a Teaching Assistant for a Data Structure class taught in Java.

C++

C++ is one language that I am currently expanding my skills in. In two of my internship, I primary used it to develop production code and rigorous unit tests.

Go

Go is one of the newest language I have acquired. I first used it during an internship where I developed the web server of an application with Go. I utilized to create the API for the server as well a OAuth token generator for it. I am currently still learning more about the language and creating several projects with it.

HTML/CSS

I am very comfortable with HTML/CSS, and it is one of the first coding languages I have learned. I have used it extensively throughout my career, from building this website and the frontend for other web applications.

JavaScript

I have used JavaScript both during my frontend and backend work. From creating Express webservers to creating animations on static webpages, I have used JavaScript in a multitude of ways through my career.

R

I have used R primarily for data analysis. I have utilizied it in the past to analyze political data as well as create statistical maps based on environmental data.

SQL

SQL is a language that I have used both academically and professionally. I am comfortable with the using the basic commands, as well as manipulating and managing large datasets with it.

React

React is a framework I have used academically and professionally. I have used it to create frontends of web applications and have wrote tests in React for them. I am still learning more about it through my personal endeavors, and hope to keep adding more skills from it to further my fullstack skillset

Angular

At a prior internship, I learned and utilized Angular to create the frontend of a web application. As well as creating the webpage, I used Angular to graphs for data displays and created unit test for the whole frontend.

Express

Express is the newest skill that I have added to my fullstack knowledge. I have used it in numerous projects, both a personal and professional environment.

Flutter

I have used Flutter both in a personal and professional project with BostonHacks. I have helped developed a mobile application for checking in attendees using Flutter. I have also used to create a small obstacle based mobile game.

Flask

Flask is a framework I have used extensively. My first major personal project was created using Flask and have helped develop a multitude of web applications with Flask.

Git/Github

I am highly knowledgable of of Git and it is my go to version contro system. I am a frequent user of Git/GitHub and work with in all aspects of programming career. I am very passionate about open source and believe in the great value of sharing code and projects with the community.

Docker

I am very experienced in using Docker, using it in a personal and professional environment. I have used Docker to build containers to help deploy web applications as well as create images so that other can access my project for their purposes.

MongoDB

I am very familiar with MongoDB, using it in various academic projects and perosnal projects.

Linux

I frequently use Linux in all aspects of my programming career. I am very comfortable with navigational commands as well as writing system adminatraton commands.

Agile autorenew

My professional experiences allowed me to have practical experience in working with Agile. Additionally, I have taken classes that has allowed me to be familiar with process of Agile and how the workflow is conducted.

Adobe Creative Suite

In my free time, I am currently trying to better familarize myself with graphic design, as I have interest in art and design, and thus use the Adobe Creative Suite to do so. I have designed and helped design logos, wireframes, and personal art projects with these tools.
